Dryer repair: common questions
Before you book dryer repair, here's how it works in brief. Clear the lint screen and check the vent hood outside isn't blocked.
Ready to get it looked at?
Book online and a technician visits your home anywhere in our service area to check your dryer; the repair begins only once you approve the quote.
Only after the diagnosis. The technician checks the heat circuit, the thermal fuses and the drive belt, tells you which one failed and what the dryer repair costs, and nothing starts until you approve.
For dryers: Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE Appliances, Maytag, Bosch, Frigidaire and Kenmore, plus the other 11 makers listed on this page.
That depends on the dryer's age, its condition and what failed. After the diagnosis you'll get a frank view if spending on it doesn't add up.
Go to the dryer's manufacturer while its coverage lasts; that repair should cost you nothing through them. We're independent of every brand, so covered work isn't ours to take.
Usually on the sticker on the door jamb, visible once the door is open. Send it with the brand and a sentence on what the dryer is doing. Clear the lint screen and check the vent hood outside isn't blocked.
Dryer repair, in more detail
We repair dryers from 19 brands at your home in Charlotte, Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Matthews, Mint Hill and Pineville. Most dryer trouble starts with airflow. A clogged vent makes a dryer slow, wears out its parts and creates a fire risk, so it's the first thing we look at.
Our order of checks on a dryer is the vent and airflow before anything electrical, because a restricted vent is what blows thermal fuses and burns out heating elements in the first place. That sequence finds the actual fault without charging you for parts that weren't broken.
The dryer fault that looks like something else
With dryers, a common misreading is a dryer that tumbles without heat getting a new element when the real trouble is a lint-packed vent that keeps tripping the high-limit protection. Misjudge it and you buy the wrong part, which on a dryer is often the costliest one inside.
Dryers in Mecklenburg County homes
Locally, the factor that matters is long vent runs from upstairs or interior laundry rooms to a side wall or the roof, where lint piles up out of sight, plus muggy summer air that already slows drying; keeping that vent clear is a fire-safety matter, and gas dryers add a gas connection to the checklist.
Upstairs laundry rooms in two-story suburban homes mean a leaking dryer can damage the ceiling below, so braided hoses and a drain pan are worth having. Humid air slows drying and feeds mildew in front-load gaskets, and long vent runs collect lint out of sight.
Try this first
With the dryer running, step outside and feel for airflow at the vent hood; a weak draft means the vent needs attention. Then unplug the dryer before pulling it out to look at the transition hose. A plastic or thin foil hose should be swapped for semi-rigid or rigid metal duct, since lint in a flimsy hose is a fire risk.
Brand families and dryer parts
We list 19 brands for dryer repair; you'll find them all linked on this page. Dryer heating parts, belts and rollers often match across a family, which is why a Roper or Amana dryer can use the same parts as a Whirlpool.
Kenmore and other store brands were built by several manufacturers, so the model number, not the badge, tells us which parts fit.
How the visit works
A technician comes to your home, diagnoses the dryer, explains what failed and quotes the repair. You approve the price before any work starts, and if the dryer isn't worth repairing, we'll tell you.
We order dryer parts by model number, use the manufacturer's own where we can, and tell you before installing an equivalent. A dryer still under the maker's warranty should go to the maker first, since we're an independent service.
