Repair notes for Lancaster
Lancaster is a city and the county seat of Lancaster County, South Carolina, incorporated in 1830 and known as the Red Rose City after the House of Lancaster. Its courthouse dates from 1828, is of probable Robert Mills design and is a National Historic Landmark; after a 2008 fire it was restored and now houses a county history museum. The University of South Carolina Lancaster is in the city.
Textiles shaped the place. Leroy Springs and others founded the Lancaster Cotton Mill in 1895, and Springs Mills was organized in 1922 to bring his Lancaster County holdings together. The Lancaster plant closed in 2003. Andrew Jackson State Park lies north of the city on U.S. 521, toward Indian Land.
The homes of Lancaster
Inside the city, homes run from older houses on the streets around downtown to later subdivisions. Census estimates put the typical home in 29720 in the mid-1980s, older than anywhere else in our South Carolina coverage.
Much of the ZIP is rural, with houses on large lots, farmhouses and a sizable number of manufactured homes. Some rural homes in the county rely on private wells, and some use propane or all-electric appliances where gas lines don't reach.
Appliance work in Lancaster homes
Older houses in Lancaster bring the usual issues of age: small kitchens, limited outlets, gas lines rerouted over time and laundry in back rooms or porches. Manufactured homes have their own constraints, with compact laundry closets, narrower appliance openings and floors that flex, so a washer that walks on spin may be telling you about the floor.
Lancaster County Natural Gas Authority has supplied gas in the county for decades, and gas ranges and dryers are common in town. Out in the country, propane and electric appliances are typical. The technician confirms the fuel, the water source and the shutoffs at the start of the visit.

Independent repair and manufacturer coverage
Store protection plans and manufacturer coverage each have their own rules about who may do repairs. Before booking an outside repair in Lancaster, read the terms or call the plan provider, because some will only pay for work by their own network.
When an appliance has no remaining coverage, independent repair is often the practical route. No brand has authorized us as its service center, yet we repair all the major ones, use manufacturer parts where available, and name any equivalent part before it is fitted.
Thunderstorms, surges and electronic controls
After a lightning storm, start with the simple checks. Is the outlet live? Did the breaker or a GFCI outlet trip? Do other appliances on the same circuit work? Many appliances in Lancaster that seem ruined by a storm are just waiting for power to be restored at the panel.
If the power is there and the appliance still will not respond, unplug it or leave the breaker off until it is checked, because a damaged board can fail again or behave oddly. Note what happened and when; that history points the diagnosis toward the control, its power supply or the wiring between them.

Yes. Manufactured homes often have compact laundry closets, smaller appliance openings and floors that flex, and the technician takes those into account when moving and leveling a machine. Some homes use appliances sized for manufactured housing. Have the model number ready when you book so the right parts can be planned.
Yes, if your ZIP is 29720. We cover every address in that ZIP, in the city or in the county around it. Give us clear directions or a landmark when you book if the house is hard to find from the road.
Every address in the ZIP code listed on this page, including streets where a ZIP runs across a town or county line. Coverage goes by ZIP code, not by town limits. If you're unsure, enter your ZIP in the search box or tell us the address when you book.
Check your lease or ask your landlord first. Many leases make the owner or property manager responsible for appliance repairs, and some managers have their own process. If you're cleared to arrange it, book a visit; a property manager can also book on a tenant's behalf.
